Real estate: 80% of French people dream of becoming an owner

What are the dreams of French people in terms of real estate? Is it becoming an owner? This is the question that Orpi, a network of real estate agencies, asked itself with the participation of the OpinionWay Institute, Radio Classique and the daily newspaper The Echoes. Between obstacles to access to housing and solutions to remedy them, here is what this very interesting survey reveals.

Real estate: what are the obstacles to access housing?

According to the PrésiTrack Opinionway-ORPI survey, the first obstacle to access housing is financial. Indeed, 60% of respondents consider that real estate prices are too high, whether for renting or for investment. Because, in parallel with the increase in prices, there is also a rise in rates that were hitherto historically low.
Another obstacle to access to housing: the supply is lower than the demand. Thus, 23% of the individuals surveyed believe that there is a real lack of housing in France.
For 30% of 18-24 year olds, another problem is raised: that of the financial guarantees required, which are far too important in their opinion. Between the deposit or the security deposit for tenants and the personal contribution equal to at least 10% of the value of the property, the youngest believe that these rules are too strict.

What are the solutions to solve these various problems?

Who says problems, says solutions to consider. Regarding access to housing and the various obstacles mentioned above, the French people interviewed during this survey have some ideas. For 81%, the reduction in housing tax for the most modest households is one of them.
Again, 81% of those surveyed want communities that promote “home ownership for all” be supported. Finally, 73% of French respondents would like the State to guarantee real estate loans as it already does for student loans. Thus, when a person can no longer repay their monthly payments, the State takes over.

Moving, ecology and dreams

Another point addressed in this survey: the change of housing. French people are attached to their homes. However, a quarter of those interviewed say they are ready to move for professional reasons.
And for the other three-quarters? Some are blocked by the repayment of a mortgage when others do not want to change their home because of DMTO (transfer taxes for a fee). These are due upon a change of ownership and include registration fees and land registration tax.
And on the ecological side? French people are concerned about the impact of their homes on the environment. Thus, 86% of respondents believe that energy performance is an ideal housing criterion. This number increases to 89% when we talk about the creation of an eco-construction sector.
Finally, on the dream side, 71% of people surveyed want to live in a house and 80% would like to become a homeowner. Among those aged 65 and over, more than 65% of the individuals interviewed want flexible housing, that is to say, one that adapts to their needs (difficulties in moving around, etc.). Finally, among young people under 30, high-speed Internet access is “essential” for almost all those interviewed (98%).
